IT STARTED WITH
ONE PAIR OF JEANS

KHĀLONG began in a fitting room, with a pair of jeans that fitted everywhere except where it mattered. The hips went in. The waistband stood open.
Most trousers are graded from a single ratio — widen the hip and the waist widens with it. We cut the other way round. The seat and thigh are set first, then the waist is brought back to where it actually rests. Nothing is taken in afterwards, because a waistband taken in pulls the pockets out of line and flattens the curve the pattern was drawn to follow.
It is where our idea of allure comes from, too. A line that follows the body reads as confidence; a garment straining to hold a shape reads as effort.
A belt is not a fit. It is a compromise you wear all day.
FIT IS DESIGN.
Every style carries its own measurement chart. A pair of shorts and a straight-leg trouser do not grade the same way, and pretending otherwise is how a size stops meaning anything.
HOW A PAIR IS MADE

A pair of jeans is decided long before it is sewn. Five stages, filmed on the floor where the work is actually done.

Drawn for a specific ratio of waist to hip, then cut in plain cotton and worn before any denim is used.

Cut with the grain. A panel cut off-grain will twist on the leg however well it is sewn afterwards.

Weight and weave are picked for how a pair looks in a year, not on the day it is cut.

Every panel is cut on grain. One cut off-grain will twist on the leg however well it is sewn.
Built, Not Just Sewn
Seams are built in sequence and the stress points reinforced — that is where the hours go.
Every Rivet Has A Reason
Buttons, rivets and zips specified for daily wear, then set by hand so nothing pulls later.

Quality control begins at the pattern, not at the end of the line. Every piece is held against the same eight points before it is allowed to carry the name.

Trousers are simply where we chose to begin, because they are the hardest thing to fit and the least forgiving thing to get wrong. What follows — tops, dresses, outerwear — will be drawn in the same language: form, fit, proportion, detail, standard.

Alongside the garments there is a small line of objects: keychains, charms and pieces in metal and stone, assembled by hand at our own bench. Small enough to be overlooked, which is exactly why they are held to the same eight checks as a pair of jeans.
